   How We Help

Connecting people in need with compassionate care

Our experienced professional staff provides the elements of effective intervention described by Dr. Jack Shonkoff, Dean of the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University:

  • Individualized service delivery
  • Family-centered orientation
  • Effective delivery of the service and involved clients
  • Providers with the knowledge, skill and relationship with the family
  • Appropriate timing, intensity and duration of intervention

Child, Adult and Family Counseling

Individual, couples and family therapy, support groups, parenting and family education, consultation to schools and community agencies and more.

Mediation Services

Divorce and post-divorce issues (family finances, division of assets, child support, child custody and visitation, and parenting plans) disputes regarding the care of an elder parent, disputes between parents and children, stepfamily disputes, services for families who do not want to engage in the adversarial process of litigation, and services for families who have found previously litigated solutions unsatisfactory.

Children Cope with Divorce Seminars

Parent education seminars required by the Massachusetts Probate & Family Court for divorcing families with children. Participants learn how children experience divorce and how to minimize the negative effects of divorce.

Geriatric Care Management

Licensed social workers provide services to meet the needs of frail older adults, working with them and their families to develop appropriate plans, assisting them in obtaining and coordinating needed services, and then monitoring their well-being.

Guardianship

JFS serves as legal guardian to some 100 elders who are no longer competent to make their own decisions or manage their own affairs, and who have no other available or capable person to serve in this role.

Neighborhood Connections

Neighborhood Connections, the first Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC) in Central Massachusetts, connects elders with the private and community services that enable them to remain living within the security, convenience and comfort of their own homes. This is the 'aging in place' movement. Because home is where your heart is!

Adoption Services

JFS of Worcester is licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. JFS provides services to all participants in the adoption arena, including children, birth parent, adoptive parent applicants, adoptive parents and adult adoptees.
