If You ...

  • Are considering inter-country adoption
  • Are interested in identified adoption
  • Want to adopt an older child
  • Want to adopt a child with special needs
  • Want to adopt siblings
  • Want to find a waiting child who is right for your family
  • Are interested in transracial adoption
  • Are a single parent or non-traditional family

JFS is licensed as an adoption agency by the State of Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. We do not discriminate on the basis of religion, national origin, disability, sex, age, marital status, sexual orientation or any other characteristic protected by law.

JFS Adoption Services Provide:

Home Study

JFS home studies are conducted by qualified social workers. During the home study your social worker will explore with you the reason you wish to adopt and will help you prepare for all of the changes that adoption will bring to your life.

The home study generally requires several meetings over the course of four to eight weeks. Your JFS social worker will prepare a home study report that meets Massachusetts requirements, as well as requirements for interstate and international adoptions.

Matching

JFS will work with you to select the adoption process that is best for you. We will help you to explore all the options available including identified or parent-initiated adoption, special-needs adoption, transracial adoption and interstate or inter-country adoption.

JFS can also help you contact listing services that match you with a child or with siblings waiting for an adoptive family.

Post-Placement

After your child is placed with you, your JFS social worker will visit you and be available by phone. He or she will maintain contact with you on a monthly basis until the adoption is finalized. JFS will provide legal services. You may also choose to have your own attorney represent you.

Post-Adoption Services

We believe that adoption is a lifelong process, and JFS will continue to be available to provide services to you and your family long after your adoption is finalized.

JFS provides counseling, support groups, adoption information and education. In addition, we can assist with referrals to other agencies and adoption support organizations.
