Parent Education Seminars
Families don’t end. Marriages sometimes do.
Children Cope with Divorce is approved by the Massachusetts Probate & Family Court to fulfill the required parent education for divorcing families with children. The program is an affiliate of Families First of Atlanta, Georgia, “Transparenting” Program.
Separation and divorce are stressful for children, putting them at higher risk for depression or behavioral problems. Most kids, with the help of their parents, will adjust to living in a two-household family.
This six-hour educational program for parents focuses on the needs of children during this challenging time of disruption and transition.
Participants learn how children experience divorce and how to minimize the negative effects of divorce.
Topics of discussion include:
- Emotional needs of adults and children experiencing divorce.
- Typical reactions of children.
- Skills that help children cope.
- Parents’ legal and economic responsibilities to their children.
- Constructive conflict management and dispute resolution methods.
- Pitfalls to avoid.
- Telltale signs of risk in children.
- How families experience divorce/separation and custody/visitation disputes.
- Developmental needs of children.
